Discover Medellín, Colombia: The Ultimate Girls' Trip Guide for Women 40+

I was hanging out with my girls drinking a bit and we decided we should plan a vacation to a place none of us had visited before. However, many of the options had quite long plane rides and got cut very early on in the discussion. Then someone mentions Medellín, Colombia. My first response was, “Isn’t that where they shot Romancing the Stone in the 80’s?” Googling proved I was wrong that it was in Cartagena.

After checking the travel time and a bit more drinks not only did we decide to on Medellin but we booked plane tickets and an Air BnB. A few weeks passed and I realized, I had not clue what this place had to offer. I’m sharing all my research with you. Medellín has a vibrant nightlife scene that caters to all tastes. Whether you’re looking for a laid-back bar to enjoy a cocktail or a lively club to dance the night away, you’ll find plenty of options. Don’t miss the chance to experience the famous salsa clubs for a night of dancing and fun! I ordered this cool salsa skirt for my upcoming trip.

6. Visit Museums and Cultural Centers

The city is home to several excellent museums, including the Museo de Antioquia and the Museo de Arte Moderno. These cultural spots offer insights into Colombia’s rich history and artistic heritage. Spend an afternoon exploring art exhibitions and learning about the city’s evolution.

7. Take a Day Trip to Guatapé

Just a couple of hours from Medellín, the picturesque town of Guatapé is worth a day trip. Known for its colorful buildings and the iconic El Peñol rock, it’s a great place for hiking and breathtaking views. Climb the 740 steps to the top of El Peñol for an unforgettable panorama. This is on my bucket list, so I will be carrying my inhaler and wearing my new hiking pants and will not forget to pack my lightweight water bottle. No Stanley on this trip, way too heavy for hiking.
